Continuous Learning and Improvement

Unlocking the Potential of Cross-Sector Collaboration

About

Continuous Learning and Improvement (CLI) is an approach to improvement that uses data to detect problems, set goals, and perform small tests of change in order to identify efficient and impactful solutions to the barriers that vulnerable students and families face to thrive.

ImpactTulsa supports school districts and local partners by providing dedicated CLI trainings and workshops that help teams reach a better understanding of why various societal problems (such as chronic absenteeism or low Pre-k enrollment) happen, and what we can do to overcome them.

Whereas standard program evaluation usually focuses on outcomes, CLI centers on the processes that lead to the outcomes. Often managed by an improvement team, CLI relies heavily on root cause analysis: instead of making assumptions about why something happens, practitioners are encouraged to gather data from a variety of sources (eg: community members, grant reports, stakeholder interviews) and use it strategically to overcome the problem at hand.

What I appreciate most about CLI is that it has provided me with tools and structures to take risks and try innovations at a micro-level. Rather than focusing solely on long-term outcomes, CLI allows for deeper consideration of our practices, which allows me to adapt more fluidly to changing conditions and new information.”
